Welcome! If you’ve stumbled upon my blog because you were searching specifically for more information on Trader Joe’s Joe’s O’s, or because you were looking for safe snacks to accommodate a peanut or tree nut allergy, then you’re in the right place!
In addition to providing product information for safe, peanut-free snacks and other products, you’ll also find an ever-growing recipe index of allergy-friendly (and family friendly) dinners, desserts, side dishes and other treats. All recipes on this site are peanut free, but I also list additional information to accommodate other special diets and food allergies when possible.
One of my goals with this series of peanut safe product posts is to provide an easier, more detailed, online shopping + product review service for my fellow grocery store nutrition label reading friends. You know what I’m talking about. Maybe you have a food allergy yourself, or maybe you’re a food allergy mom like me. Either way, you know how exhausting it can be to carefully scan nutrition label after nutrition label, checking to see if every single product you buy is safe for you and your family. On Flavorpalooza, you can see the labels for yourself, from the comfort of your couch, car, wherever!
Please note, labels are constantly changing, so please pay extra close attention to the dates assigned to these posts and pictures. Also, I always like to remind my readers of my general disclaimer: that although these products at the time of purchase were deemed safe for my son’s peanut allergy, you should always follow the advice of your doctor/allergist and do your own due diligence before deciding if a product is safe for you.
Trader Joe’s Joe’s O’s Review
STAR RATING: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ (out of 5)
The Good:
So, first of all, the Cheerio’s brand product doesn’t pass our “safe for peanut allergies” test, especially with the more recent introduction of Chocolate Peanut Butter Cheerio’s. No. Thank. You. In fact, even if I felt safe about having my son eat brand name original Cheerio’s, I would probably stop, because it freaks me out that they made the specific peanut butter-flavored Cheerio look pretty much identical to the regular Cheerio. So, say, if you were to see a stray Cheerio on the ground at the park (happens all. the. time.), it’s frightening that they’re so similar, and one is so deadly for my child. So, NO TO CHEERIOS for us. But, those little O’s of cereal goodness are such an easy snack to fill snack cups with for road trips, or to add to nut-free trail mixes, etc., so we were THRILLED when we discovered the Trader Joe’s Joe’s O’s brand passed our allergy labeling test. And our kids love this cereal! They love it by the handfuls. And the bowlful. Also, it’s only $1.99! Such a bargain.
The Bad:
Comparing apples to apples with the brand name product, there are reviewers out there that claim the Cheerios flavor is superior to the Joe’s O’s flavor. But, again, we don’t have the option of choice here, and my kids love how Joe’s O’s taste. So, this isn’t an issue for us.
Special Diets:
Trader Joe’s Joe’s O’s are peanut free, tree nut free, dairy free, soy free and vegan. I called their customer service line (June, 2019) to confirm that SKU 0036-5925 is made on a dedicated, nut-free line (it’s not made in a nut-free facility). Note that Trader Joe’s uses different vendors depending on where you’re located, so if you have a different SKU, please call Trader Joe’s HQ at: (626) 599-3700.
