According to their website, they are a gluten free and nut free bakery that makes breads, rolls, cookies and cakes. On their FAQ page, they mention they are a 100% ground and tree nut free facility. Nut Free New York City: Restaurants
The following restaurants have nut-free kitchens (awesome!), but you’ll still want to do your own vetting based on potential cross contamination risks with the ingredients they source.
T Bar Steak & Lounge
(212) 772-0404
1278 3rd Avenue
New York, NY 10021
A nut free steakhouse that is very knowledgeable about allergies. Ask your server for more information to confirm, but diners are raving about this spot on allergy boards!
New York Pizza
New York City is known for its pizza, and luckily, most New York pizza places don’t have items with peanuts or tree nuts on their menu, and make their own dough and sauce in-house, which eliminates the risk for cross-contamination in the kitchen. In general, pizza places are usually a safe option, but always ask at each place you go to, or call ahead, to verify.
Allergy-Friendly NYC Restaurants
These are restaurants (more being added soon) with excellent allergy training in place, separate menus indicating items containing allergens, etc. One recommendation is to ASK QUESTIONS, because most of these restaurants are ensuring you there aren’t any nuts in your meal, and that it will be prepared in a clean space, safe from cross contamination. But, most cannot guarantee that all ingredients are made in dedicated, allergen-free facilities. So, it all depends on the severity of your allergy and your comfort level with each venue.
Big Daddy’s
212-477-1500
239 Park Ave. S.
New York, NY 10003
Operating since 1969, Big Daddy’s is a classic burgers-fries-shakes joint that operates a 100% nut free kitchen. The owner himself, as well as two of his children, have food allergies, so that’s about as allergy aware as you can hope for! Please note they don’t share that they’re nut free on their website, and my information is from a nut free Facebook group, with several members stating they’ve been there and have been told by servers that the menu and kitchen are 100% nut free. But, it’s recommended that you ask for yourself when you arrive to verify!
Nut Free New York City: Fast Food
Chipotle (multiple locations nationwide) – No items in their restaurants contain peanuts or tree nuts, but they cannot guarantee the complete absence of these allergens
Food Allergy Resources
Does your child have a peanut allergy? I love recommending the book Peter Can’t Eat Peanuts to parents. It’s an approachable story that has really resonated with and empowered my son. Available on Amazon!
Another favorite is Daniel Has an Allergy, featuring the beloved Daniel Tiger. Also available on Amazon.
