Food Allergy Resources

When my then infant son was first diagnosed with a life threatening food allergy to peanuts, I was so overwhelmed by all of the information being hurtled my way by the ER doctors, his pediatrician, and his pediatric allergist. I needed help and support and FAST! And, over time, I found several outlets that continue to offer me the support and guidance I need as we navigate the different ages and stages of his allergy.

I hope you find this list of food allergy resources helpful:

Food Allergy Research and Education (FARE): This is really the best, one-stop-shop for most of the information you’re going to need to help you manage your child’s food allergy, from newly diagnosed, to starting kindergarten, to heading to college, and more.

Asthma and Allergy Foundation of America (AAFA): Find your local chapter! I signed up for my local chapter’s newsletter, which is full of information on local lectures and other news.

Kids with Food Allergies: This is a division of the AAFA. Another great resource that covers a variety of topics families living with food allergies will find helpful.

Food Allergy Facebook Groups: I’ve joined about 4 or 5 local Facebook groups. A couple are for general food allergies, one is for specifically peanut allergies and the others are for local parents of kids with food allergies. I find these to be extremely helpful for finding local recommendations for safe restaurants, bakeries, etc. As well as for discussing how area schools handle life threatening food allergies, and other concerns. Just search some keywords to find a local Facebook group near you!

I am not a doctor. Or an allergist. So please always follow your doctor’s/allergist’s orders first, and heed their advice. Also, please note that although I often list products and brands that work for my family, please always read labels, call companies and recheck the products/brands, since manufacturing processes are constantly changing.
